Last week for our Sake dinner at The Marine Room I made mochi.  It’s very easy to make, but it’s quite a sticky mess if you are not used to it.  There are a couple of tricks you can do to make it easy to work with.   I don’t know if i’ll post that recipe because, although simple to do, it is a little difficult to explain.  A lot of the recipes on the internet for homemade mochi are vague and hard to follow, so maybe I should write out a nice precise one for people who are interested.

Chef Ron Interview with Inga Intriago

Filed under: Uncategorized — Chef Ron @ 4:31 am

San Diego Socialite and Fab Foodie, Inga Intriago, sat down with the Chef Ron to ask a few questions about life, cooking and food philosophy.

I.I.-   So Chef Ron, what inspires you in the kitchen?

R.O.-  Life is about discovery. When I cook, I love giving people a new experience or a new take on something already familiar to them. When I discover something new in the kitchen, my first thought is to share it.

I.I.- And what would you say your mission is as a Chef?

R.O.-  As a chef, my mission is to promote the kitchen as a rewarding and valuable place to spend your  time, either alone or with friends, family and neighbors.  When the kitchen is the nucleus of a household and cooking is a highly regarded activity in a society,  it has many positive benefits for the people and the environment.

I.I.- That is very intriguing, can you elaborate on why that is?

R.O. – Well, to put it very simply, the more importance you place on something, the more you take care of it and keep it close to you.  That is what we need to do with our food supply.

I.I.- And why did you decide to start a blog, what is your intention with this?

R.O. – I thought a blog would be a fun way to give people some behind-the-scenes looks at the restaurant business, and to get people more connected to the exciting world of culinary arts. Also, by sharing some travel experiences I hope to inspire people to take their own adventures.

A little note from Inga:

I am so honored to have met Chef Ron Oliver and get the chance to learn more about him. One thing about me is that I consider chefs artists and rockstars! I get star struck everytime I see a chef in a chef uniform, LOL!! I grew up appreciating delicious food with fresh ingredients! I am fascinated by food and the people behind any delici0us dish. I love how Chef Ron is so humble and extremely approachable and so willing to share all of his wonderful culinary creations! I’m looking forward experiencing more of Chef Ron’s creations, and that is what they are to me, an experience to be savored to the fullest!
